Target Audience

  • Explain the development and use of quality measures to quantify healthcare processes and outcomes
  • Compare the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Joint Commissions use of quality measures to assess the quality of healthcare
  • Review the epidemiology and risk factors for developing heart failure
  • Discuss the 2013 American College of Cardiology Foundation (ACCF) and American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines for the Management of Heart Failure

Margaret V. Clark, MS, RN, RRT - NPS
Margaret Varnell Clark, MS, RN, RRT-NPS is an award-winning writer and medical editor. She is also a reviewer/abstractor for the National Guidelines Clearinghouse and the National Quality Measures Clearinghouse on behalf of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Previously, she was a Scientific Director for The Heart.org and the Editorial Director of 4 divisions at Medscape/WebMD: Pulmonary Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Allergy and Immunology, and Emergency Medicine. She also served as an Editorial Director of the peer review journal, MedGenMed.
 
From 2002-2004, Ms. Clark was the Special Studies Coordinator for the Georgia Medical Care Foundation where her responsibilities were the development and review of research protocols and technical reports, project design, consulting on data analysis and statistical methods, marketing, monitoring, quality assurance auditing, data management, and project management for the national pilot collaborative, Chronic Kidney Disease in Patients with Cardiovascular Disease. Prior to that, she was the Clinical Coordinator for Respiratory Care, and clinical faculty at Boston University/Boston Medical Center in Massachusetts. Concurrently, Clark was a columnist for Advance for Respiratory Care Practitioners News Magazine from 1990-2010. She is the author of several peer reviewed articles, monographs, text books, and books including: Inspiration: Your Guide to Better Breathing, and Asthma: a Clinicians' Guide.
Ms. Clark is the 1996 recipient of the Bird Award given at the American Association of Respiratory Care, annual meeting and the 2010 D. Robert McCaffree, MD, Master FCCP Humanitarian Award given by the Chest Foundation of the American College of Chest Physicians.
Ms Clark discloses no financial relationships with pharmaceutical or medical product manufacturers.
